    Yukon team takes first state roller derby tournament title

    FAIRBANKS, AK-The first state tournament in roller derby was right here in Fairbanks this weekend. Six teams participated in the United We Roll Alaska State Tournament hosted by the Fairbanks Roller Girls at the Carlson Center.

    There were some close games but the Yukon Rollergirls beat the Fairbanks Raven Rebels 179-120 for the first Alaska state tournament roller derby title.The roller derby event was also a chance for people to learn about the sport with boot camps headed by trainers from Texas. Next year's tournament is slated to be in Denali.

    Sunday high school baseball scores

    FAIRBANKS, AK-There was also some high school baseball on Sunday. Lathrop rolls 14-1 over North Pole. The Malemutes are now 5-1 in the MAC. The Wolfpack came in undefeated but Monroe beats West Valley 9-4.

    Baseball teams will have a few days off until Wednesday when Delta plays Monroe at Growden field at 6 pm.

    ASAA State Track and Field Meet results

    FAIRBANKS, AK-The last ASAA StateTrack and Field meet in the Interior wrapped up Saturday. The state meet will move to Dimond next year. The state meet was hosted by West Valley 2005-2007. Lathrop has hosted the past six seasons.

    The Kodiak Bears won the 4A boys title for first time since 2007. Dimond was a close second with 84 points. Lathrop was fourth with 56 points. The West Valley girls finished seventh (37 points) while Dimond won with 71 points for their fourth title in five years.

    Day one of soccer MAC tournament cements semifinals

    NORTH POLE, AK-It was a full day of the Mid Alaska Conference soccer quarterfinals and fans at Newby Field saw the favorites handle business and an unexpected victory in the last game.

    In the early afternoon game the Lathrop boys blew out the Eielson Ravens with a 14-0 win. The Malemutes will face a local rival in the second round.

    The Lathrop girls team made quick work of the Ravens as well. The Malemutes generated five goals in the first half then added two more in the second for a 7-0 win.
