Estonian signs with UAF ski team

FAIRBANKS-The Alaska women's skiing team continues to add to their roster this offseason. Martina Himma from Tartu, Estonia will ski for UAF next season.

Himma is an accomplished Estonian skier. She was seventh in the skate race at the Estonian Jr National Championships and was a part of the championship team last year. She was second at that event in 2012 and won the classic team sprint 2011.

Himma also won the U-17 division and U-20 division of the Tartu Running Marathon event in back to back years.

Lathrop's Dickinson signs to wrestle at Warner Pacific

FAIRBANKS-There has been a lot of national letter of intent signings in the Interior and yesterday a second wrestler from Lathrop signed a NLI.

160 pound state wrestling champion Joe Dickinson signed his national letter of intent to Warner Pacific College to wrestle for the Knights. The Knights will have their first wrestling season this year for the first time since 1975. Warner Pacific is in Portland Oregon.

Malemutes shutout Delta 11-0 on the diamond

FAIRBANKS-Lathrop continues to roll with a 11-0 shutout victory over the visiting Delta Junction Huskies tonight.

Terrell Ford and Chris Carter combine for a two hitter as Ford pitched the first two innings and Carter worked the last three.

The Malemutes were up 5-0 after two innings giving Ford the win.

Cameron Walker continues to make contact at the plate going 3-3 with a single, double and a triple. The junior almost got the cycle. He's 7-7 in the last two games for Lathrop.

Lathrop and Delta sweep the Region VI track field championships again

FAIRBANKS-For the second straight year Lathrop and Delta sweep the Region VI 4A and 3A track and field championships. After two days of track and field events the Huskies and Malemutes won it all.

The Lathrop boys had 102 points and the girls won with 89. The Delta boys had 94 and the girls had 89 points.

Beth Hanson led Delta by winning the discus, shotput, triple jump and 300 hurdles. The Huskies swept the distance races as well.

West Valley boys reclaim MAC title with 4-0 win over Lathrop

FAIRBANKS-In the boys MAC soccer game on Saturday night at Lathrop Stadium West Valley needed a win to clinch the boys MAC title after winning over North Pole on Friday night.

The Wolfpack were able to get some through balls and combinations and Norman Rockwell scored in the 25th minute to give the Wolfpack a 1-0 lead. To put the Malemute behind the eight ball Keegan O'Brian scored in the 40th minute right before halftime giving West Valley a 2-0 advantage.

Lathrop girls win MAC soccer title

FAIRBANKS-In high school soccer the MAC championships were decided on Saturday evening in a double header. The Lathrop Malemutes hosted cross town rival West Valley.

In the girls game a win would clinch a state berth for either team. This was a close and very physical game throughout.

Karli Fitzgerald, the top scorer in the region, fired one towards the goal in the first half and Kaleigh Sparks got two hands on it but just couldn't get the save. The ball bounced off the near post after Sparks initial grab and Lathrop is up 1-0 at the 19th minute.

Weekend baseball and softball scores

FAIRBANKS-There were a couple of baseball and softball games on Saturday.

In prep baseball Monroe sweeps Delta on the road in a double header 14-1 and 15-14. Michael Neville went 2-3 with two runs and two rbis for Monroe.

In softball Lathrop beats South Anchorage 10-2. Kacey Duffield had five Ks and Kimi Duffield hit a grand slam in the win.

Also Hutchison split their non-conference double header with Delta winning 7-3 then losing 7-6 in game two. Kelsey Huntington had seven Ks for Hutch.

Lathrop downs North Pole 18-7 in MAC baseball

NORTH POLE-Lathrop gets a big road win on Friday night to solidify there stop on top of the MAC conference for now.

Lathrop had 10-4 lead but in the bottom of the third the Patriots tried to rally with two runs to make it a 10-6 game.

However, the Lathrop Malemutes would continue to generate runs in the top of the fourth inning.

Camron Walker powered the Mutes with a 4-4 performance that included two doubles and two triples. One triple in the top of the fourth brought in teammate Colin King. King also added two doubles and a triple while going 3-4 at the dish.
