UAF's women's basketball team releases schedule

FAIRBANKS-The Alaska women's basketball team also released their schedule for the 2014-2015 season.

They start the year co-hosting the GNAC/PACWest Challenge with rival UAA. Both teams will play Chaminade and Holy Names at the Patty Center.

UAF goes to Utah on Nov. 19 to play Dixie State and then Cal State San Marcos and Chico State in the Dixie Women's BBall Thanksgiving Classic.

On Nov 27 the 13th North Star Invitational. This year's field is Saginaw Valley State, Colorado Christian and Augustana College.

Two tournaments to begin UAF's volleyball season this fall

FAIRBANKS-The Alaska Nanook volleyball team will be in two tournaments before starting their GNAC games. That's what highlights their 2014 season schedule.

UAF has their Alumni match on Aug.30 then on Sept.4 the start of the Nanook Classic featuring Tiffin and St. Edwards at the Patty Center.

On Sep.12 the Nooks travel to Colorado for the CSU-Pueblo/UCCS Volleyball Classic. While in Pueblo they'll play Adams State and CS- Pueblo. Then they go to Colorado Springs to face the UCCS before taking on Lindenwood.

North Pole and Hutchison roll in softball games

FAIRBANKS-Last night there were a couple of softball games at the South David Sports Complex.

The North Pole Patriots were hosting the Delta Junction Huskies and the Patriots were up 16-8 and would add to that lead.

How about an inside the park three run home run by Selina Dykes bringing all the runners in.

The Ramos girls Karissa and Allison provided the defense. Allison with the nice catch on a fly ball and Karissa getting the strikeouts as North Pole wins over Delta.

Tuesday high school sports results

FAIRBANKS- In high school sports in baseball last night West Valley wins 12-5 over Delta Junction despite seven errors. The North Pole Patriots got a narrow 5-4 win over the Monroe Rams.

In boys soccer, the state bound West Valley Wolfpack wrapped up the regular season with a 7-0 win over Hutchison. Brayden Deweese had a hat trick and Jacbo Luhrs score twice. West Valley finishes 9-3-2 and 7-0-1 in the MAC.

Holley of East High signs NFL contract

BUFFALO-Yesterday the Buffalo Bills signed wide receiver Caleb Holley to an undrafted free agent contract.

Holley, from Anchorage, went East High School.

Holley set a school record of 970 receiving yards on 55 catches with nine touchdowns for East Central in Oklahoma. Eight of his nine touchdowns and 710 receiving yards were in his last five games.

Holley was the only try-out player from the Bills rookie mini-camp to sign.

Alaska basketball squad releases 2014-2015 schedule

FAIRBANKS-The big recruiting class for the men's basketball team will be learning the ropes of Division II basketball early.

The Nanooks basketball schedule was recently released and the Nooks will have a pair of exhibition against Trinity International on Nov. 14 to get their feet wet.

For tournaments they start on Nov.20 with the GCI Alaska Invitational at the Patty Center featuring, Black Hills State, Minnesota State Moorhead, and the University of West Alabama.

UAF men's basketball completes 11 player recruiting class

FAIRBANKS-The Nanook men's basketball team gets five more players to sign NLIs to complete an 11 player recruiting class.

Today the team announced another Serb Almir Hadzisehovic (pronounced Hodd-zee-SAY-ho-vitch) from Belgrade, Serbia will be a Nanook.

Almir, a 6'8 center transfers in from Ohlone College in Fremont, California. He averaged 10 points and 4 boards per game last year. Similar to Sergei Pucar as big you play inside and out.

On Friday four new transfer players announced they will play for UAF head coach Mick Durham.
