The Trap Shooting sport can be a good time for a family

FAIRBANKS-The Fairbanks Trap Club had their Super Bowl for trap shooting over the weekend. The Alaska State Pita Trap Shoot and no they're not shooting targets made of pita bread. PITA stands for the Pacific International Trapshooting Association.

There are clubs in Arizona, Yukon, Oregon and British Columbia to name a few. The Alaska state competition started Wednesday and ended on Sunday. Over 50 trap shooters came out to the 6.5 mile post on the Old Steese Highway. Some came from Washington State, Canada, Juneau and Anchorage.

Panners win third straight against Seals

FAIRBANKS-Alaska won their first two games of the year at home against the San Francisco Seals and scored 13 runs in each win. But last night in game three of this five game series the Seals delivered the first blow and made this a game.

Seals center fielder Joy Marchini brought in the first run of the game to the give San Fran a 1-0 lead in the top of the third. It was their first lead of this series. Marchini led the Seals with three hits and three rbis. The Panners were up 3-1 and Marchini drove in another run to make a 3-2 game in the top of the fifth.

Bishops wins Mosquito Meander, two Pennslyvanians meet up for a cause

FAIRBANKS-The 22nd Mosquito Meander was at Pioneer Park this morning. Hundreds of runners, walkers, and people on wheels participated in the 5K with beautiful conditions.

Always a good turnout for this race but someone had to finish first among the competitors and that was Andrew Bishop. He ran across the finish in 18:17 unofficially.

There was something else of note at this year's race. Jeff Fazio and Deanne Gerber, coworkers from a Pennsylvania school came all the way to the Interior for the Meander.

Phoneix 99 fall in Region IV President's Cup quarterfinal

MORGAN, CALIFORNIA-Today the Region IV President's Cup ended for Interior Teams in California. The Phoenix 99 boys team made into the quarterfinals but lost 2-1 to the Wolfpack of Southern California.

Igor Soshenko gave Phoenix a 1-0 lead with a goal at the 17 minute mark but the Wolfpack scored twice before the first half to gain the lead.

The Phoenix boys team finished 1-3 at the tournament.

Goldpanners win big in home opener

FAIRBANKS-The Alaska Goldpanners had their first home game of the season on Friday night. Fans were treated to some Cracker Jacks, peanuts and an offensive explosion by the Panners.

it's 3-1 game in favor of Alaska over the San Francisco Seals in the third inning and Erick Hutting out of Long Beach State takes one deep and out to left field. That's a three run dinger and gives the Panners a 6-1 lead.

Foursome shoots 109 in 14th Morris Thompson Memorial Golf Classic

FORT WAINWRIGHT-This morning at the Chena Bend Golf Course was the site for this year's Morris Thompson Memorial Golf Classic. Every parking spot was filled and every cart was out on the course as 32 foursomes, who were sponsored by businesses, competed for this year's crown but it was for a good cause.

This year's title goes to Todd Hudson, Dave Atlay, Gene Carlson and John Castle. The foursome shot an amazing 35 under shooting 109 total. That's pretty good.
Two teams tied for second both shooting 115 for 28 under.

Alaska Wild beats Fairbanks 49ers in legion baseball

FAIRBANKS-In American Legion Baseball last night the Fairbanks Post 30 or the Alaska Wild played the Fairbanks 49ers or Fairbanks Post 11 team.

The Wild won 13-2 on Marlin Field. Their second win of the summer season.

West Valley's Tyler Christmann threw 5 strikeouts in 5 innings and went 2-4 with a single and a double with 2 rbis. The 49ers committed 8 errors in the loss.

Lathrop's Terrell Ford and North Pole's Carmon Teel both went 2-3 from the plate for the Wild.

The Wild will play Eagle River tomorrow in a double header at 12:30.
