Three Rams sign national letters of intent

FAIRBANKS-Today at Monroe Catholic for the first time the Rams had 3 student athletes sign nation letters of intent on the same day. Good timing. Their graduation is tomorrow. Christian Nickerson, Tyler Wells, and Michael Neville will move on.

A basketball and football player, Neville, signed to the University of Mary in Bismarck, North Dakota to play tight end for the Marauders-a Division II football program. He plans to major in business.

Ice Dogs focused for this weekend's Robbie Cup finals

FAIRBANKS-There is one more task at hand for the Fairbanks Ice Dogs. This weekend's Alpine Lodge Robertson Cup Championship three game series against the Austin Bruins.

Both teams splite their four regular season meetings 2-2 and both teams won at home. The Bruins bring in some fire power. Forwards Luke Dietsch and Niko Hildenbrand are 2-3 in top playoff scorers with 15 and 12 points.

Stewart is coach of the year for Ice Dogs, Proffitt GM of the year

FAIRBANKS-Today the Fairbanks Ice Dogs were recognized by the NAHL as the best team in the league with a number of awards. Third year head coach Trevor Stewart was named NAHL Coach of the Year.

With Stewart as bench boss the Ice Dogs went 45-14-1 earning the President's Cup for the league's best record. Their 21 road wins were a league best. The Ice Dogs had the best offense averaging the most goals per game. Fairbanks won consecutive ERA Cups, the NAHL Showcase and were the Midwest Division regular season and postseason champions.

UAF Rifle team picks up recruit, Sherry and Stanfield on US Dev Team

FAIRBANKS-The Nanook rifle team is building off the momentum from the national runner up finish this past season. This week Luke Johnson of Marysville, Pennslyvania signed his national letter of intent to shoot for the Nanooks. Johnson is the first signee to UAF.

Johnson has eight NRA national records in smallbore in a four year span (2010-2014). Johnson also won 2012 and 2013 national titles with Palmyra Junior Rifle Club in two different national finals. He plans to major in natural resource management.

Thompson throws a gem, Lathrop team still undefeated

FAIRBANKS-High school teams are in the teeth of their spring seasons. Let's see what happened last night.

How about a perfect game? West Valley's Zahn Thompson struck out 12 batters en route to an 8-0 win over North Pole. Thompson also had two rbis.

The Patriots rallied in their first of two games last night getting two runs in the last inning for a 5-4 win over Eielson. North Pole is 3-0 in the MAC and 3-2 overall.

Ege and Liljegren are NAHL All-Rookies

FAIRBANKS-Today the NAHL announced their All-NAHL teams and the Ice Dogs were represented on the rookie team. Rookies Wyatt Ege and Viktor Liljegren were named to the NAHL All-Rookie Teams.

Ege, a defenseman, is a first team pick. Ege had 20 points and a plus minus of 19 in 59 games played. He has four goals in these playoffs.

Liljegren, the 6'3" forward from Sweden, was a second team all-rookie pick. The Swed tallied 45 points with 18 goals in his first season. He has five points in the palyoffs.
