Sluice Box 100 registration deadline is tonight

FAIRBANKS-The Sluice Box 100 will go down this weekend. The 100 mile test of endurance will start early Saturday morning.

But before that there is a meeting tomorrow on Friday at 5 p.m. in the Reichardt Building at UAF. The mandatory pre-race meeting.

The third annual race which has five legs starts at 7a.m. this Saturday morning at Mushers Hall on Farmers Loop.

Yukon Quest Dawg Gone Canoe Race moved to July

FAIRBANKS-The Yukon Quest Dawg Gone Canoe Race was been delayed into July. It was supposed to be this Sunday but it will be on Sunday July 13.

The Canoe Race will be at 5 p.m. at Graehl Landing. The finish is at the Boatel Bar after four checkpoints along the Chena River. There is a $100 entry fee and it will be $125 after July 11.

This is for ages 21 and up. There are three person teams that consist of a dawg handler, a dawg and dawg driver. The dawg can be someone dressed as a dog or a toy dog. Costumes are encouraged.

Deadline to renew UAF hockey season tickets is next week

FAIRBANKS-Nanook hockey don't forget this date June 30th. That's the last day you can renew your season tickets for the 2014-2015 Alaska hockey season.

You can renew your season tickets by mail, by phone at 474-NOOK(6665) or by visiting the Patty Center Ticket Office.

The Nanooks begin the 2014-2015 season with the Blue and Gold Game on September 27 at the Patty Ice Arena. The Nooks have their first home game Friday October 3 hosting the Western Ontario Mustangs.

Alaska to host Oceanside Waves this week at Growden

FAIRBANKS-The Alaska Goldpanners had Monday night off after their weekend series with the Lake Erie Monarchs. The Panners are on a roll.

After losing their first two games of the season they have won seven of their last eight games. They have a four game win streak as well. Alaska has a 7-3 overall record.

They swept the Lake Erie Monarchs three games to none in the Midnight Sun Series this past weekend.

Dimond wins Midnight Sun American Legion baseball tourney

FAIRBANKS- There was an American Legion baseball tournament over the weekend. It was the annual Midnight Sun Tournament that was Friday through Sunday on Marlin and Arco Field. The Alaska Wild, Fairbanks 49ers and Dimond Post 21 were the competitors.

This year's title went to Dimond. Post 21 went 4-0 in three days of baseball. They won three of four games by two runs or less.

Payton Lauwers was name MVP hitting .357 to a go along with a home run, six rbis and a .438 on base percentage. Dimond defeated the 49ers 7-5 on Sunday to secure the title.

Goldpanners sweep Monarchs in Midnight Sun series

FAIRBANKS-Hundreds of baseball fans braved some early rain but it cleared right before the first pitch of the 109th Midnight Sun Baseball Game on Saturday night and it was a game.

The Goldpanners were down 6-3 in the bottom of the fifth to the Lake Erie Monarchs but Alaska broke out the rally sticks and got six runs in the bottom of the frame. Cody Nulph, out Orange Coast College, hit the go-ahead rbi for the Panners who didn't look back winning 13-6. They haven't lost the midnight spectacle since 2007. Nulph talked about his first Midnight Sun game experience.

Kriska and Be-Bi Bones Express win tough Yukon 800

FAIRBANKS-This year's Doyon Limited Yukon 800 Marathon race exemplified what is dubbed the toughest riverboat race in the world.

14 riverboat crews set out from Pike's Landing on Saturday and only two made it back to Pike's on Sunday afternoon.

The first boat in was Tom Kriska and the Be-Bi-Bones express. They came in second last year but won it all this year as he was greeted with cheers and hugs from fans and loved ones.

Clinton Huntington and River's Edge were the second crew to make it back to Pike's despite flipping over three times.
