Ice Dogs game five highlights sports weekend

FAIRBANKS-There are some weekend events for Interior Sports to get into for the second weekend in April. Check out the Arctic Bowl bowling Alley for the Bowl For Kids' Sake event. It's from 10am - 4pm on Saturday.All the money raised from teams goes to Big Brother Big Sisters. Saturday at 11:30 up on the hill is the 20th annual Beat Beethoven 5K race outside of the Patty Center.It's $45 to register tomorrow if you haven't already.You have to finish the 5K before the end of Beethoven's 5th symphony to get a free voucher for a Fairbanks Symphony Orchestra performance.

Kunyk and Parayko named All-Americans

FAIRBANKS-Big news today for Alaka Nanook hockey as two players from the 2013-2014 hockey team were named All-Americans.

Forward Cody Kunyk and defenseman Colton Parayko were both named CCM Division one 2nd team All-Americans today. 

Kunyk, now a member of the NHL's Tampa Bay Lightning, was the WCHA Player of the Year.  Parayko established himself as one of the top defenders in the league as only a sophomore last year. 

UAF's SAAC holding first ever Spring Sports Showdown

FAIRBANKS-There will be something a different happening tomorrow up on the hill. Friday evening at 6:30 will be the first Nanook Spring Sports Showdown. Athletes from all of the 10 athletic programs will compete against each other in different sports.

For example, members of the cross country team will play volleyball players in basketball. There will even be a USA vs Canada hockey game with students from the US and Canada.

West Valley's Sigmon and Brackett sing NLIs

FAIRBANKS-The off-season has started for a number of sports but it's also the start of something new-new careers. Today at West Valley high school Travon Brackett and Trusty Sigmon signed national letters of intent.

Brackett, who committed early to Anchilla College in Donaldson, Indiana, will be a Charger this fall. Brackett was an All-MAC Conference, 4A All-State, and All-State tournament pick in basketball in his senior season. He averaged just under 22 points and 10 rebounds per game. He had three assist and two steals per game with 16 double doubles on the year.
