Trettel and Todd win again on Thursday night in North Pole

FAIRBANKS-Last night at the North Pole Speedway a good crowd was on hand for a good cause. There were a number of race fans who came out for Relay Night. Half of the admissions went to support Relay for Life Fairbanks. A few cancer survivors walked around the track as well.

As far as the races Destiney Todd continues to improve in her second year. She swept the two heats and the main event and now leads the Bandos by 117 points.

UAF's Kunyk sign's two-way deal with the Lightning

TAMPA BAY, FL-Former UAF hockey player Cody Kunyk inked a one year deal with the Tampa Bay Lightning this week. Last year's WCHA player of the Year was a restricted free agent at the end of Tampa's season and did get a qualifying offer from the Lightning a week ago.

He signed a two-way deal on Tuesday. The details of his deal were not available. He'll either be a part of Tampa Bay or their AHL affiliate team the Syracuse Crunch which means he can receive two different salaries.

8th inning key in Goldpanners win

FAIRBANKS-Wednesday night at Growden Memorial Park the Alaska Goldpanners and the Kenai Peninsula Oilers locked horns for game two of their five game series.

The Goldpanners got off to a nice start after a Cody Nulph sac fly Jacob Hayes takes one out of the park his fourth of year. Alaska was up 3-0 but Grabriel Munoz answers with a solo shot of his own for the Oilers. His third jack of the season makes a 3-1 game.

Wild hold to defeat 49ers in league game

FAIRBANKS-Last night the Alaska Wild and Fairbanks 49ers clashed on Arco Field for an American Legion baseball game. This was a league game and it was a lot different from Monday's 11-0 win for the Wild.

There were five lead changes in this one but the Wild got two crucial unearned runs in the bottom of the 6th and win this game 6-3 in 7 innings.

Mike Fitzpatrick led the Wild with two hits, an rbi and a run scored. Terrell Ford got the save for the Wild.

The Wild are now 5-7 and 7-9 overall. They will host Wasilla this Saturday in a double header at Arco Field.

Nulph's first multi home run game leads Panners over Oilers

FAIRBANKS-The Goldpanners opened their five game series against the Kenia Peninsula Oilers in a big way on Tuesday night. The Oilers were visiting Growden Memorial Park for the first time this summer and in the first meeting between the two teams and they would get well acquainted.

Jeff Pashcke broke the scoreless tie giving the Oilers a 1-0 lead. The Oilers were ahead 2-1 into the bottom of the fifth inning and that's when Alaska went off.

2014 WEIO games to start July 16

FAIRBANKS-It's July and it's almost that time again. WEIO time. That's right the World Eskimo Indian Olympics start a week from tomorrow on July 16 at the Carlson Center.

The opening day session of the 54th WEIO games will feature kneel jump finals and the scissor broad jump finals as well as the Race of the Torch. The opening ceremonies start at 6 pm next Wednesday followed by the women's blanket toss prelims.
