FAIRBANKS- The Co–op Market: Grocery and Deli has been in the works since 2006, and this week marks the end of their first official year doing business. The General Manager, Mary Christensen says, the store is doing better than projected. So far, more than 2,600 people have signed up to be part– owners of the grocery store. Anyone can shop at the Co–op Market, but Member/Owners can receive dividends when the store becomes profitable, which is estimated to be in three or four years. Christensen attributes the success to selling organic and local foods in Fairbanks. She says the business also helps local farmers.
