New tick species arrive in Alaska

FAIRBANKS- You probably didn’t know that Alaska has always had some species of ticks, the tiny spiders commonly found in hair and animal fur, but new species are being found in Alaska, especially on dogs. Alaska Fish and Game Biologists say, they’ve found two new species around the state and there’s a larger chance they could spread diseases to people and animals. They haven’t found common diseases associated with ticks yet, but they want to increase awareness among pet owners. Two dogs in Fairbanks were found with ticks and officials say owners may want to check their dogs after they play outside or stay at pet boarding kennels.
