Lemonade day is a free, fun, experiential learning program that teaches youth how to start, own, and operate their own business – in this case, a Lemonade stand.
Sunday, all over the Fairbanks Northstar Borough, more than 250 kids from kindergarten through the twelfth grade will have Lemonade stands set up at various businesses.
Proceeds from the funds raised by the kids will be donated to local charities.
The objective of the program which first started in Houston in 2007, is to give children a sense of financial acumen and how money works in the real world.
Rebecca Leivdal is coordinating the event and says "We think that all ages they have to learn this and have it.
It's like a second language you learn and this is something that they need to be learning too on an annual basis throughout their lives so that when they get out of high school, they're not having financial troubles like a lot of us do so..."
Volunteers are needed to assist with the program this weekend.
