GVEA holds annual meeting amid flurry of discontented customers

About 1900 members of the Golden Valley Electric Association were at the co-op's annual meeting last night.

The main topic of discussion was the high cost of electricity and what can be done about it.

One of the reasons bills are so high is the cost of fuel used to run generators.

Efforts to find alternate forms of power, like wind and hydro, are underway, but they are at least several years away.

They are also working to get the clean coal plant at Healy running, but environmental groups have delayed that plan.
