Highways and roadways in the Interior will be in various states of construction this summer as the Alaska Department of Transportation has numerous projects on the schedule.
This week marks the 13th annual National Work Zone Awareness Week.
DOT officials want to remind drivers of several large projects slated to ramp up in the next few weeks.
The Illinois Street project has already begun, but other projects ready to start include the repaving on University Avenue and major roadwork on the Richardson Highway near the Chena Flood Control Project.
Alaska averages nearly 80 highway work zone accidents each year.
DOT officials are hopeful that drivers know in advance what locations roadwork is taking place and drivers remember to reduce speeds near project sites.
