Autism rises to spotlight after President's announcement

Autism spectrum disorder, or ASD, affects young people and adults of every background.

Earlier this month President Obama proclaimed that April 2nd was to be Autism Awareness Day.

Locally, the Alaska Autism Resource Center, located downtown on 5th Avenue, is making a conscious effort to alert the public about just how widespread autism is becoming, as well as looking for common signs.

The center also has an extensive library of books and manuals to assist parents and loved ones in understanding more about autism.
