The Farthest North Girls Scout Council has announced its Women of Distinction class of 2012.
They are Alaska Native leader Bernice Joseph, long-time Fairbanks Memorial Hospital spokeswoman Shelby Nelson, and former State Commissioner of Health and Social Services Karen Perdue.
The award was designed in 1997, and honors women who make highly visible, as well as silent, contributions to the Fairbanks community.
This year's celebration also ties into the hundred-year anniversary of the organization.
Farthest North Council Executive Suellen Nelles says so far the year has been a huge success.
