Anchorage Police recover Body of missing Anchorage Barista

FAIRBANKS, AK -- Anchorage police officials this evening announced a body pulled from Matanuska Lake during a crime-scene investigation is the body of missing barista, Samantha Koenig.

The body was discovered earlier this morning in a site investigation that included Anchorage Police Department, F.B.I. Officials and Alaska State Troopers.

Matanuska Lake is located off the Glenn Highway, near the Palmer-Wasilla Highway interchange and the Matanuska-Susitna Regional Hospital.

APD Chief Mark Mew said they believe the suspect in Koenig’s abduction and murder acted alone, stating “We believe we have that suspect in custody.”

Last month, 34 year old Israel Keyes was arrested by law enforcement in Lufkin, Texas.

He is accused of using Koenigs’ debit card, taken from a man’s vehicle on the night of Koenig’s abduction.

Anchorage police has previously said Keyes was “the main player” in the Koenig case.
