FAIRBANKS, Ak -- 51-year-old Norman Beverly is charged with kidnapping, attempted murder and other felony crimes connected to a domestic violence inciden is also on a self imposed hunger strike, aaccording to state corrections officials.
Beverly says he will not eat until an independent investigation is conducted into what he calls "trumped up charges."
Beverly has a long history with the alleged victim. He talked with the Newscenter via telephone from the state jail proclaiming his innocence.
He says after a night of heavy drug and alcohol consumption, he tried to keep the woman from shooting herself after he wanted to end their relationship.
Beverly says he was not immediately charged with a crime, due to the alleged victim's unwillingness to have him prosecuted.
He says the woman pressed charges only after he wanted out of the relationship.
