EAGLE RIVER, AK-In the fourth place girls soccer game in the ASAA state tournament on Saturday, West Valley could not get revenge in a rematch with South Anchorage. Both teams met in last year's state final and South wins again this time 6-1. Maddison Ackiss prevented the shutout.
This is the lowest finish in West Valley's seven trips to state. It's also head coach Greg Gibson last game. He's been West Valley's coach for 15 seasons.
The Dimond Lynx won this year's state title. 3-1 win over service.
The Malemutes took game one 7-5 and need one more to win the Mid Alaska Conference outright but West Valley rallied in game two with a 9-5 which makes the MAC state berths quite interesting.
FAIRBANKS, AK-Some important baseball games for MAC teams. Last night at Arco Field the Lathrop Malemutes swept the Delta Junction Huskies winning 11-1 in game one and closing out game two here 12-1. In that second game. Wyatt Berg led the way going 2 for 3, a triple, and 3 RBI. Mekiah Stansel and Terrel Ford earned wins in the double header.
FAIRBANKS, AK-The South Davis fields were packed last night as teams fast pitched and hit their way to victories. Perhaps none bigger than the Patriots opening win of the night against the Colony Knights a team they haven't beaten in three years. It's been known as the Colony curse.
Thanks to Robin Heineken's pitching and the defense the Patriots were clinging to a 4-3 lead in the top of the sixth. Then Kasey Ritchie the senior shortstop provides the clincher the double bringing in two Patriots. The Colony curse is no more. North Pole wins 6-3.
EAGLE RIVER, AK-Yesterday the West Valley 2-1 loss to Colony and go to the consolation bracket. Unfortunately, last night the North Pole boys faced the same fate.
The number one seed West Anchorage defeats North Pole 3-0. The first half went scoreless but West figured out the Patriots defense and goalie Brady Crane who allowed one goal all year. 3 unanswered goals by West all in the second half.
Today the Patriots will play Juneau-Douglas, last year's runner-up in the consolation bracket. The West Valley girls will play Thunder Mountain.
