FAIRBANKS, AK-On Saturday night the GFRA had a full weekend of racing at the Mitchell Raceway. Some highlights from the races was Scott Sluka. Sluka swept the modified class winning the two heats and the main event. Also in that class Derrick Coghill wipes out into the fence area pretty much taking a portion of it down in turn four. This happened in the second heat racebut thankfully he was unharmed and returned for the final race.
Mike Small came up big winning the dollar stock 15 lap main event.
FAIRBANKS, AK-On Saturday morning the 21st Mosquito Meander took place at Pioneer Park. For the competitors of the race Peter Noon was first crossing the finish line in 16: 27 seconds in this 5k walk run. Nathaniel Burrell was right behind Noon coming in 27 seconds later. Christi Schmitz, the Seawolves junior and North Pole High school product, came at 19:42 seconds which was ninth overall to lead the ladies.
More than 500 people entered into the Meander which benefits Fairbanks Counseling and Adoption. Noon the recent West Valley graduate and Schimtz talked about the race.
FAIRBANKS, AK-Tonight is the start of the Midnight Sun Invitational hosted by the Midnight Sun Swim Team and that event will run through Sunday at the Hamme Pool. But on Monday and Tuesday at the Hamme there will be swimming clinics hosted by the Northern Area Aquatic Committee as a part of the Fitter and Faster Swim Tour by swimoutlet.com
FAIRBANKS, AK-The Greater Fairbanks Racing Association will have a full weekend of racing starting tonight.
The weather has finally cooperated and the dirt track is in good enough shape for racing. So far this season opening night was rescheduled due to weather and two other race nights were cancelled because of sub par track conditions.
