NORTH POLE, AK-It was a full day of the Mid Alaska Conference soccer quarterfinals and fans at Newby Field saw the favorites handle business and an unexpected victory in the last game.
In the early afternoon game the Lathrop boys blew out the Eielson Ravens with a 14-0 win. The Malemutes will face a local rival in the second round.
The Lathrop girls team made quick work of the Ravens as well. The Malemutes generated five goals in the first half then added two more in the second for a 7-0 win.
FAIRBANKS, AK-Two games in two different locations tonight but the one thing they had in common was one team displaying the will to win. At Wright Field in North Pole the Patriots hostd the West Valley Wolfpack.
NORTH POLE, AK-The Wolfpack and Patriots girls teams were in a playmaking battle last night at Newby Field.
West Valley's Audrey Wade put the Wolfpack up 1-0 this goal goes over the head of goalie Alicia Clark. Clark bounced back with 20 saves for North Pole.
In the second half North Pole's Janelle Pasco got a goal through the melee to tie the game.
FAIRBANKS, AK-The West Valley Wolfpack took the Malemutes to the brink but Lathrop wins 1-0. Salena Maxwell hit a clutch rbi in the top of sixth for the lone score. Kacey Duffield had seven strikeouts and fanned the side in the bottom of the sixth to end it.
Lathrop is 6-0 in the Railbelt and 11-0 overall.
The Patriots got a statement win with a 14-3 win over Aurora conference leader Eielson.
Allison Norton and Abby Hess hit the ball well and North Pole improves 5-5 with the win.
