Family members say an 18–year old Fairbanks woman remains on life support, in critical condition, in an Anchorage hospital after she was shot in the head late last month.
Leaders from Fairbanks and Anchorage today made their pitch as to why future AFN Conventions should be held in their city. The last time Fairbanks hosted the annual convention was in 2010 at the Carlson Center, and the 2013 affair will be held there as well.
A 12-member jury has acquitted a 32-year old North Pole area man on a host of felony charges
that could have drawn a possible life prison sentence had he been convicted.
During hearings Friday afternoon, Jason Hannah was sentenced to "time served" on a Misdemeanor
4th Degree Assault conviction, the lone charge jurors found him guilty of at the end of trial proceedings last week.
Late Thursday afternoon, a bill extending the amount of time a teacher must work in order to be
eligible for tenure passed the House.
House Bill 162, by North Pole Republican Representative Tammie Wilson, would require teachers to work in the same district, continuously,
for five full school years in order to gain tenure.
