FAIRBANKS- At the opening session of the Alaska Wood Energy Conference, various speakers discussed challenges in villages, where fuel can cost $10 per gallon. The director of the Alaska Native Science Commission, Patricia Cochran said there are many possibilities to help Alaskans become more self-reliant and wood energy could be one piece of the puzzle. The conference highlights the versatility of wood and biomass energy and organizers say it could relieve pressure on other resources.
