Woman flown to FMH after grizzly attack

20-year-old Julia Stafford is in FMH with a broken hand after being attacked by a Grizzly bear.  She was in the Tangle Lakes area taking soil samples when the female grizzly charged her and her co-worker. The bear dragged Stafford approximately 20 yards by her right hand, and then released her. The bear then left the scene and Julia was flown by rescue helicopter to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital, where she will remain for two days.

Stafford's parents were in Fairbanks from Seattle on business and will accompany her home where she will then have corrective surgery on her hand.
