FAIRBANKS-Monday night there was some American Legion baseball action on the diamond at Marlin Field. The Alaska Wild or Fairbanks Post 30 battled in town rival Fairbanks Post 11 or Fairbanks 49ers in a non-league game. Both teams are made up of local high schoolers so they know each other very well.
The Wild were coming off back to back losses to Chugiak Post 33 the state champs and they let it out on the 49ers. The Wild were up 1-0 as the game had the makings of low scoring tight game. Both teams making defensive plays with runners in scoring position but the Wild had to two key innings.
In the top of the fourth the Wild scored four times. Jason Donald was pitching for the Wild and he threw a gem-a seven inning eight strikeout shutout game.
Donald got the run support from Chris Carter and Colin King who both hit three rbis. Trent Chiu was a bright spot for the 49ers going 2-4 but Carmon Teel of the Wild shined a little bit brighter going 3-4, scoring four runs and a rbi.
The Wild put up a five spot in the 7th inning to put this one away shutting out the 49ers 11-0. Both teams will play again on Wednesday night in a league contest.
