FAIRBANKS- Because of the federal government shutdown, programs like the Women, Infant and Children Supplemental Food Program are being negatively affected. The program, commonly known as "WIC," is currently running and all vouchers are valid, but federal funding has stopped. Representatives with WIC say they have enough state funding to run the program through October. In the borough, WIC serves more than 4,000 people each month. The downtown office at the Resource Center for Parents and Children is open for questions and the staff wants people to contact congressmen and tell them the importance of WIC.
