NORTH POLE-There were two critical Mid Alaska Conference games on Friday night. North Pole hosting West Valley at Newby Field in a girls, boys double header.

There was a pivotal play in the first half of the boys game. North Pole's Augustin Pineda put a ball on net and it was blocked somewhat by West Valley goalie Chris Wheat. Nolan Cady came in and kicked the ball out of Wheat's hand who the ball slightly pinned to the ground with his hand on top of the ball. Casy kicked it in for what he and the Patriots thought was a goal. Wheat thought he allowed a goal himself but the refs negated the goal. Saying that the ball was in Wheat's grasp enough for the save.

The game would remain tied 0-0 well into the second half but Brayden Deweese was the spark plug for the West Valley Wolfpack in the last 20 minutes of the game. After a North Pole thrown in near their own goal Deweese also able to get to the loose ball after a touch from a Patriot player. Deweese dribbled two yards into the box turned and fired one in far side for th game's first goal.

Four minutes later Daniel Remington threw the ball in for West Valley and it was high enough and far enough to go off the head of Deweese for another score quickly changing the momentum over to West Valley after gaining a 2-0 lead in just minutes.

It snowballed for the Wolfpack after that. Sophomore Andrew Bray scored his first two goals of the season to close out the second half for West Valley. The Wolfpack avenge last year's Region VI championship loss to North Pole on Newby Field with a 4-0 victory.

The Wolfpack sweep the season series against North Pole are now 5-0-1 in the MAC. They can win the region outright with a win tonight against rival Lathrop. Lathrop will be at home and the last time the teams played it ended in a 3-3 tie.

In the girls game West Valley came away with a 2-0 win. Jamie Milles scored both goals for the Wolfpack.

The West Valley girls will also need a big win to lock up a region title as well. Lathrop is 5-0-2 while West Valley is 4-0-1. They tied each other 0-0 in their first meeting.

Lathrop and West Valley will play tonight at 5:30 starting with the girls game and boys game at 7:15 in Lathrop Stadium.
