West Valley's Sigmon and Brackett sing NLIs

FAIRBANKS-The off-season has started for a number of sports but it's also the start of something new-new careers. Today at West Valley high school Travon Brackett and Trusty Sigmon signed national letters of intent.

Brackett, who committed early to Anchilla College in Donaldson, Indiana, will be a Charger this fall. Brackett was an All-MAC Conference, 4A All-State, and All-State tournament pick in basketball in his senior season. He averaged just under 22 points and 10 rebounds per game. He had three assist and two steals per game with 16 double doubles on the year.

Brackett shot 36 percent from three and 82 percent from the line.His career highs are 37 points against Seward and 19 rebounds against Hutchison. He also won the state title last year with East Anchorage.

The Chargers set a school record for 10 conference wins last season in the MCCAA (Michigan Community College Athletic Association).

Sigmon, a defensive lineman for the Wolfpack, signed to Rochester Community and Technical College. Sigmon will be a Yellowjacket in Rochester, Minnesota. The Yellowjackets have won four straight titles in the MCAC (Minnesota College Athletic Conference) and went 10-2 last season.

Sigmon was a first team selection to the All-Railbelt defensive team and was on the second team large schools all-state team on defense as well. The 6'2" 250 pund linebacker had 56 total tackles averaging about four per game and added seven sacks along with a forced fumble as a senior. Sigmon plans to major in business.
