West Valley wins basketball opener over Hutch, Patriots win

FAIRBANKS-This afternoon the Hutchison Hawks hosted West Valley in a non-conference season opener for both teams.

In the boys game both teams traded some baskets early on but West Valley led 13-8 after one. Hutch got to the free throw line to stay within reach.

In the second quarter Hutchison cut an eight point deficit to 15-16 after a Spencer Johnston three and a tough layup by Emmanuel Pacheco.

But the Wolfpack brought their defense blocking several Hawks shots and getting offense from Travon Brackett who had a game high 19 points. Tahj Washington added 11 and the big man Kobe Milk had eight.

West Valley led 27-19 at the half and started the second half on a 10-0 run blowing open this game as the Wolfpack cruise by 30 and win this one 66-35.


The North Pole Patriots won their season opener on the road today in Delta Junction.

The Patriots prevailed 54-47 over the Huskies.

Sophomore Garrett Sommer led the Patriots with 15 points. Junior point guard Deaundre Campbell added 12 points in the win.
