FAIRBANKS- Nearly 46,000 Alaskans participated in the Great Alaskan ShakeOut this morning by practicing safety during an Earthquake. Earthquakes are common in Alaska and people were asked to "drop, cover and hold on." Administrators at West Valley had extra plans and they added to their safety agenda. Before the sun rose, they practiced a total school evacuation which took nearly an hour. Everybody left the building, about 1,000 people, and walked 30 minutes to UAF where students reconnected with their teachers. The Assistant Principal, Dave Foshee, says they wanted to cram both drills into one day in order to limit disruption to classes.
