Upgraded charges in throat-cutting case

A local grand jury has upgraded charges against a 45–year old Fairbanks man accused of cutting another man's throat with a knife inside a local bar two weeks ago.

Originally charged with Felony Assault in the Second Degree, Lance Arthur Johnson NOW stands charged with First Degree Attempted Murder and Felony Assault in the First Degree.

Fairbanks Police say Johnson stabbed his 37–year old alleged victim inside the Arctic Bar around 3 a.m. November 10th.

Police say after having his throat cut, the alleged victim managed to leave the bar, call 911, give police a description of his attacker and then identify the man who stabbed him before he was rushed to the hospital.

Authorities also say the incident was caught on the establishment's surveillance camera as well.

Johnson was arraigned early yesterday in Fairbanks Superior Court, and has pled not guilty to all charges.

Since his arrest, he has posted 25–thousand dollars bail, and is free while he awaits trial.

Trial in his case is set for early February of next year.
