UPDATE: Body Found at UAF Library Identified

FAIRBANKS, Ak - A 63 year old Fairbanks man shot and killed himself inside of the library of the University of Alaska Fairbanks early Saturday Afternoon, according to campus police officials.

Police were alerted to a study room on the fifth floor of the library around 1 p.m. after they received a report that a man appeared to be sleeping.

Officers arrived to find Tschon Ombadykow dead of an apparent self-inflicted gun shot wound.

According to UAF Police Chief Sean McGee, Ombadykow was a former UAF employee who worked in the Facilities Services Division, and someone who he was also familiar with.

No one witnessed the actual event take place, but a number of people studying nearby reported hearing what sounded like a firecracker exploding outside of the building.
