UAF women's basketball picked last in preseason poll

FAIRBANKS-The women's basketball team will continue to rebuild towards success under fourth year coach Cody Bench. Lots of new faces for the women's team as 10 new players join the Blue and Gold. The makeup of the squad is six juniors, six freshmen and two seniors and a sophomore.

In the preseason polls the Nanooks were picked last in the GNAC after going 3-15 in conference and 5-12 overall a year ago. The ladies did finish with some momentum winning three of their last four games, including three straight over GNAC teams.

Montana State Billings was picked to win the conference followed by Seattle Pacfic and Western Washington. UAA was picked sixth.

Alaska junior guards Benissa Bulaya and Kelly Logue will lead the way for the Nanooks. Bulaya is the top scorer from last year's team with 8.8 points per game. Logue's 2.6 steals per game were third in the GNAC last year.

That'll be the Nooks calling card pressure defense. They led the GNAC with 10.5 steals per game last season. The Nooks start their 2013-2014 campaign with an Alumni game on Nov. 2 before playing Western Mexico on Friday Nov. 8 in the Patty Center.
