FAIRBANKS-The Nanook rifle team is building off the momentum from the national runner up finish this past season. This week Luke Johnson of Marysville, Pennslyvania signed his national letter of intent to shoot for the Nanooks. Johnson is the first signee to UAF.
Johnson has eight NRA national records in smallbore in a four year span (2010-2014). Johnson also won 2012 and 2013 national titles with Palmyra Junior Rifle Club in two different national finals. He plans to major in natural resource management.
Also sophomores Tim Sherry and Lorelie Stanfield made it onto the US Nat'l Development Team after getting silver medals at the National Junior Olympic Shooting Championships last month.
Sherry won gold in air and silver in the three position while Stanfield earned silver in women's three position. She was also fifth in air rifle.
Now they'll go on to compete in order to make the World Juniors team. The final round for roster spots is June 22-29 at Fort Benning in Georgia.
