UAF men's team survives in triple OT thriller

NAMPA, ID-Last night's Nanook men's basketball game against NorthWest Nazarene was pretty epic. Epically long. No one wanted to lose this game but someone had to.

Ronnie Baker hit a clutch three for UAF with nine seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime tied 69-69.

No Kevin Rima for NNU as he fouled out in the first overtime. The Nanooks benefitted as Andrew Kelly was wide open for a dunk in the paint to give the Nooks a 80-78 lead with 20 seconds left. But Michael Loomis answers with the floater to send it double overtime tied at 80.

Sergej Pucar makes a three to give the Nooks an 86-80 lead in the second overtime but the Crusaders nail three straight from beyond the arc. Stefan Tica answered with a triple of his own sending the game into triple overtime tied at 91.

The Nooks started another extra period with a Joe Slocum three to open the scoring in the third overtime. 94-91 Nooks.

It was 97-95 in favor of UAF after a Crusaders basket. UAF missed a shot but Andrew Kelly was there from the offensive board. He was trapped on the baseline and falling down he passes it to the top of the key for Baker who hits a huge three.

Mario Donaldson would attempt to spark NNU again with a tough layup. He had 24 points leading five other Crusaders in double figures.

Its' 100-98 with NNU on the come back again but Slocum follows a blocked shot with a layup to push UAF ahead 102-98 with less than a minute remaining.

The Nanooks hit critical free throws late and win 108-104 in triple overtime.

UAF shot 50 percent from the field. All the starters were in double figures led by Baker's game high 26 points. They went 15-31 from downtown and are 9-5 in the GNAC which is third.

UAF faces Central Washington tonight.
