UAF hockey team adds NAHL defenseman

FAIRBANKS-The Alaska Nanook hockey team received a commitment from a NAHL defenseman for this upcoming season over the weekend. Kyle Froese from Traverse City, Michigan committed to the Nanooks on Friday. The six-foot 190 pound defenseman comes in from the Corpus Christi Ice Rays of the NAHL.

The captain of Corpus Christi had his best year of junior hockey scoring 22 points including six goals in 55 games for the Ice Rays. Froese went 3-10 on power play goals and put in two game winning goals this season. He was also drafted in May's USHL draft going 70th overall to the Omaha Lancers.

He's had stints with the Traverse City North Stars and Soo Eagles. Froese put up 41 points and 13 goals in 149 career NAHL games. He's the second defenseman to join the Nanooks five player recruiting class which includes local star Tayler Munson.
