UAF going to the GNAC Basketball Championship Tournament

FAIRBANKS, Ak-The fourth seed Nanook basketball team were getting in their last practice at the Patty Center before heading to GNAC Championship Tournament for the first time since 2005 when the Nanooks were in postseason play. The GNAC Championship Tournament format is in its third year and this is UAF's first appearance.

They face Montana State Billings in the quarterfinals in Lacey Washington. They split with the YellowJackets with MSUB winning behind a furious rally, a 30-9 run in the second half that led to a 80-70 win last week. The Nanooks won the first game 80-73 back in December.

But GNAC Co-Coach of the Year Mick Durham took this team to fourth place after being picked last in the GNAC. Their 15 -11 record is the first winning record in six years and the best conference finish in seven seasons. Dominique Brinson and Sergej Pucar were named to the All-GNAC second team for the first time in their careers and point guard Pat Voeut was All-GNAC honorable mention.
