UAF gets big gift

There was a little excitement today at the Alpine lodge as the the University of Alaska Fairbanks was presented with a very generous gift from Conoco Phillips.

As part of a continuing series of donations, a check for $300,000 was presented to Chancellor Brian Rogers from the Vice President of the North Slope Operations and Development for Conoco Phillips at today's weekly Chamber of commerce luncheon.

The check now brings the amount of Conoco Phillips contributions since 2011 to a total of one million dollars.Brian Rogers says this latest donation will be put to good use.

"The focus of this is going to be on research that will benefit the industry first in dealing with issues of subsidence around North Slope oil wells, and then to support graduate students, in their research.

This is the third piece of the 1 million dollar endowment created by Conoco Phillips for petroleum engineering at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

today's gift was $300,000, bringing it up to that total."
