For years there has been a healthy disagreement between the University of Alaska Fairbanks and the University of Alaska Anchorage. Both schools recently concluded that this philosophy doesn't benefit either school, so now they have adopted a "United We Stand , Divided We fall" concept and this seems to have developed a much more amiable relationship
Today two chancellors from each school told a gathering of business leaders that already the co-operation between the two is reaping bonuses.
Chancellor Brian Rogers says the concept of "United We Stand, Divided We fall" is working well.
"The main message is that UAA and UAF are working together to try to address educational needs.
We focused primarily on the engineering initiative where were trying to get new facilities in both Anchorage and Fairbanks.
But we're really trying to cooperate on wide variety of initiatives."
Meanwhile the Chancellor for UAA agrees that things are getting better
" the more effectively we can work together, the better we are going to be able to do our jobs.
There are many signs of progress.
The legislators seem to really appreciate us co-operating than competing on things."
