UAA hires hockey coach

ANCHORAGE, AK-The Nanooks' nemesis to the south made in important step in moving forward in regards to their hockey program. The Seawolves found a new hockey coach.
UAA announced this morning that Matt Thomas will be the new head coach of the Seawolves hockey.Thomas had been an ECHL coach for nine years.

Most recently, Thomas took the Stockton Thunder to Kelly Cup Finals this past season and even eliminated the Alaska Aces from the playoffs along the way to the Finals.
Thomas finished with a 56 percent winning percentage and his 342 wins are fifth all-time in the ECHL. He hasn't had a losing season as an ECHL coach and operated without an assistant.
Among the six finalists Thomas was the only one with professional coaching experience.

Thomas has been an assistant coach at Maine when they were the NCAA Div. I second place team back in 2002. He is a Rochester Institute of Technology alum and played four seasons at RIT. He coach there for a year and led that team to the NCAA Div. III semifinals. Thomas hales from Mississauga, Ontario.
