Two swimmers win four events at Lathrop Invitational

FAIRBANKS-The high school swimming and diving season started on Friday and Saturday.The opening meet was the Lathrop Invitational featuring West Valley, North Pole, Hutch, Palmer, ACS, Valdez and Lathrop at the Hamme Pool.

North Pole's Martha Hood and West Valley's Tommy O'Donoghue were the big winners with four wins apiece. Hood won the 200 IM (2:18.73), 100 back (1:04.82) and tied in the 100 butterfly with Lathrop's Rose Mercer with a 1:02.5 second time. Hood also won the 500 free in 5:39.6. O'Donoghue won the 200 IM on Friday (2:16.73) and Saturday (2:12.75). Then added wins in the 100 backstroke with a 52.47 second swim and 100 breaststroke in 1:03.21.

In Boys 1 meter diving Lathrop's Zachery Campbell put up 381 points in two days to win the event. Campbell dove for 183.2 points on Friday and 198.15 on Saturday. West Valley's Emily Shipman posted 141 points diving unopposed in girls 1M diving.

Looking at other notable winners, Kaylynn Donnolly, up from ACS, won the three events. In the 100 free Donnolly finished in 57.08 seconds. In the 200 free she posted a 2:03.48 time and 100 breaststroke she swam a 1:11.86 time.

Luis Marquez won two distance frees for West Valley. In the 200 free he swam a 1:52.36 and finished with a 5.15.76 time. Hutchison's Joe Vorderbruggen won the 100 butterfly (57.85) and 100 free (53.27).

The next All Schools meet is this Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Westcott Pool in North Pole Middle School.
