FAIRBANKS-The college rifle season ended in March for the Nanooks but some UAF shooters are taking their talents to an international level.
Freshmen Sagen Maddalena and junior Ryan Anderson will compete for team USA this summer in the 51st International Shooting Sport Federation World Championships. They made the team after placing top three in air rifle in the USA Shooting Rifle/Pistol World Championship Selections Match.
Maddalena redshirted for UAF last year and went from fourth to a silver medal after three days of shooting.
Anderson, an All-American for the Nooks, had to be clutch. Anderson won a 20 shot shoot-off by two points over Bryant Wallizer for the bronze and the final spot on the team.
Maddalena and Anderson will travel with team USA to compete in the ISSF World Cup events in Munich, Germany, Slovenia, and Granada Spain. There two events in June, one in July and one in September.
Fellow UAF shooters will have a shot of making the International Team. Senior Mike Liuzza and Anderson will shoot men's prone today through Saturday and sophomore Tim Sherry, the national smallbore champ, will shoot three position smallbore next Tuesday-Thursday.
