Troopers investigate death of Quinhagak woman

Alaska State Troopers are investigating the death of a 25-year-old Quinhagak woman.

Lisa Johnson was found dead February 3rd, her body covered with brush and hidden off of a trail.

26-yaer-old Harold Smith of Quinhagak was charged with first-degree murder and evidence tampering in her death after telling investigators that she was intoxicated and he shoved her causing her to fall and become unresponsive.

Smith said he panicked and hid her body on the trail.

An autopsy later revealed the cause of death to be asphyxiation due to strangulation.

Smith was transported to Bethel where he was remanded into the Yukon Kuskokwim Correctional Center and held without bail.
