Opening statements are scheduled to begin early this morning in Fairbanks Superior Court in a murder case dating back to 2011.
The defendant, 22-year-old Cornelius Everett stands accused of the beating death of 55-year-old Johnson Griffin of Fairbanks.
Griffin was beaten to death in his apartment in the Northward Building; a medical examiner later concluded Griffin died from blunt force trauma to the chest, which caused severe internal bleeding.
Everett originally pleaded guilty to 2nd degree murder, then changed his plea only days later.
A jury was selected yesterday and trial is scheduled to continue into the week.
