FAIRBANKS, AK-For competitive basketball tournaments in the Interior the previous two have been for good causes. The Martin Luther King Jr., Tournament helps raise money for local student athletes in the form of scholarships. The Midnight Sun 3 on 3 tournament supports the Fairbanks Youth Sports and the Wolfpack Tip-Off Club.
This weekend it gets serious. Local teams will be playing for a $3,000 cash prize in the Tournament of Champions. It starts Saturday from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. and Sunday 2 p.m.-7 p.m. All games are at the Patty Center Gym.
Former Fairbanks Grizzlies standout Devin Robinson is putting on the Tournament of Champions which received great support last year.
"It meant a lot to have the people come out and support my event. And people were there and that meant a lot to me," Robinson said.
"This year we have more sponsors, more people have been contacting me to sponsor and be a part of it. We just picked up our official sponsor for the tournament this year, it'll be Boston's. Boston's will be our official sponsor this year in the tournament. So I appreciate them and everyone else in the community that's been helping out," Robinson said.
