Teen accused of murder and arson pleads not guilty

FAIRBANKS- Not guilty pleas today for the Fairbanks teenager who stands accused of multiple counts of murder and first degree arson.

18-year-old Conar Groppel was arraigned today in Fairbanks District Court, and assigned a public defender.

He entered denials to all 12 charges he faces in connection to the January fire.

The fire, which burned a large apartment complex on Geraghty Street, displaced roughly 50 residents and killed two occupants inside - although it is not clear which occupant Groppel is charged with killing.

An indictment reads that Groppel recklessly committed the crimes with "extreme indifference to the value of human life."

Trial for his case is set for September.
