FAIRBANKS- Falling water levels are affecting how boaters navigate the Tanana River near Salcha as a new bridge is constructed. The project director, says there's not enough water to use the original detour, but boaters can cross under the temporary bridge if their boat is low enough. Today, the clearance under the north side of the temporary bridge was 8 feet, 2 inches. There is a sign with flashing lights to direct boaters where to go. The exact clearance will be posted daily at the project website. A link to the site can be found at the bottom of the page and the Salcha Marine can give free tours to anyone who would like to see the current boat path.
