Suspicious Package prompts State Building Evacuation

The state office building in downtown Juneau has been evacuated.
The cause for the emergency evacuation was, what authorities call, a suspicious package containing a white powder.
The package was found on the 11th floor of the building by the security guard and was immediately reported to the Juneau police.
Juneau Police Lt. David Campbell told the Newscenter, “It was decided once we got on scene that the entire building, just for a precautionary point of view, would be cleared out and evacuated.”
The package was collected by the Juneau Hazardous Materials Team, who will ship it to the State Public Health Lab in Anchorage for further examination.
Officials say the State Office Building will remain closed until authorities determine the identity of the powder.
