Superintendent's attorney responds to School Board's termination request

An attorney who represents Superintendent Pete Lewis has responded to the Fairbanks North Star Borough School Board's termination request.

According to Board President Heidi Haas, the response does meet the 5pm deadline set for today in which Lewis' termination would have become permanent.

Inside a letter received by the board, Lewis' attorney asked that the two sides go straight to the arbitration phase rather than hold a hearing in his client's case.

The School Board says their attorney is reviewing the letter and anticipates responding to that soon.

For now, Superintendent Lewis remains on paid administrative leave from the District.
