The deadline to have studded tires removed is today, that's according to officials with the Alaska Department of Public Safety.
The Public Safety Commissioner's Office had issued an emergency order extending the deadline on Alaska roads two weeks beginning May 1 due to "lingering weather conditions."
They say the extension should have provided all motorists ample time to have the tires removed.
Those motorists caught driving with studded tires after the deadline could be issued a correctable ticket with a $50 fine by an Alaska State Trooper.
Local police agencies may have a different fine amount depending on city laws.
