State Senate Subcommittee holds meetings for education funding

A state Senate subcommittee has started meetings to look at state  education funding.

A two-day meeting started today in Anchorage, with additional meetings planned for September and October.

Members plan to look at the total cost of K through 12 funding, including the formula that guarantees districts a certain amount of money per student, transportation costs, school construction and pension payments.

Some legislators have been hesitant to provide more than one-time funding for specific needs, like energy costs, amid concerns with how districts are spending money.
